March 9th marks the 85th anniversary of the birth of Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin, and in honor of this event we are displaying a new, temporary exhibit entitled Yuri Gagarin: "I am a simple Soviet man".
Yuri Alekseyevich was fearless and loved life. He was not afraid of difficulties and chose instead to accept the challenges he faced. He wrote of himself in his 1962 book “The Road to the Stars", “From childhood I didn’t like to wait. Especially if I knew that there was difficulty and danger ahead. It’s better to go ahead to meet it rather than dodge it”. It was this trait that helped him not only to conquer the sky, but also not hesitate and to say his legendary "Let's go!"
This exhibition presents unique items that Gagarin himself held in his hands during his life. The exhibit includes Gagarin’s father’s carpentry tools, a school desk, a foundry ladle, flight glasses, a polar aviation pilot’s winter jacket, air force major’s epaulettes, and more! Each of these items has its own story connected to the early life of the legendary cosmonaut.
