Dear friends! Come join us for Moon Week, from July 18 - July 21. Organizers: the Moscow Museum of Cosmonautics, Discovery Channel, the CoolConnections art association, and TV Rocsosmos, with support from IMBP RAN, BOMBORA Publishing House, and Retro FM radio.
The events are dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the first landing of a man on the moon: Apollo-11, conducted by astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collin’s.
In the program: a series of exciting popular science films, lextures, and dicsussion about lunar missions and space programs.
Students from Museum of Cosmonautic’s “Engineering Center” are hosting a mini-excursion about the moon. In the museum’s halls you can see Michael Collins’ authentic Apollo-11 spacesuit, samples of lunar soil, the remote-controller and a model of the Soviet lunar rover “Lunakhod-1,” and the “Krechet” Soviet spacesuit that was designed to be worn on the lunar surface.
In “Seconds to Landing,” Discovery Channels tells the story of “Bereshit,” the Israeli automated research station that crash-landed on the moon. The screening will be accompanied by a talk by Vitaly Egorov, host of science talk show “Space Without Formulas.” Admission is free, by registration through the link.
BOMBORA Publishing House will hold a presentation of James Hansen’s book “First Man: The Life of Neil Armstrong.” This is Armstrong’s only biography, and was created and approved with his input. Entry comes with tickets to the museum.
The art association CoolConnections presents “Apollo-11,” a documentary dedicated to the first successful flight of a man to the moon. The documentary features never-before-seen archival footage and audio recordings from the actual Apollo-11 mission. The showing will be accompanied by a talk by Alexander Laveikin, Hero of the Soviet Union, Pilot-Cosmonaut, and by Alexander Farafonov, Researcher at the Museum of Cosmonautics. Admission is free, by prior registration through the link.
Oleg Voloshin, cybernetics doctor and head of the IMPB RAS press service, will give a lecture on the past, present, and future of lunar exploration. Admission with a free ticket to the museum (because it is the third Sunday of the month).
These films focus on the moon and human exploration of the moon. The film “Barmingrad: Return to the Moon” celebrates the 110th anniversary of Vladimir Pavlovich Barmina, a constructor of jet-powered launch vehicles, space rockets, and military launch sites; and a Main Designer of the Soviet space program. Admission with a free ticket to the museum (because it is the third Sunday of the month).
